It has similar advantages and disadvantages to wire-wound resistors. Another disadvantage of it is that because the resistance wire is turned around the skeleton, when the sliding contact slides from one turn to another, the resistance value changes in a stepped way. Wire wound potentiometer suitable for making power type potentiometer, generally its rated power between o.25-50W. Wire-wound potentiometers can also be made into low-noise, stable precision potentiometers and multi-trap potentiometers.

Synthetic carbon film conductive plastic potentiometer The synthetic carbon film potentiometer is composed of a conductive plastic potentiometer coated with a conductive film, and its main characteristics are horseshoe shaped insulating rubber plate, base and rotation system. This kind of potentiometer is wide variety, widely used, than the wire wound potentiometer, its resistance changes continuously, high resolution. It is easy to make resistors with the desired changing characteristics, but the heat resistance is poor.

Organic solid core conductive plastic potentiometer organic main characteristics, the selection of solid core potentiometer is the use of granular conductive powder added in the pre-pressed base embryo by hot pressing to form a conductive body, with a rotating part. It has large conductive volume, strong overload capacity, but large noise, poor accuracy and stability. General wire-wound potentiometer cost is higher. The cost of a solid cell potentiometer is lower.
