  How to choose TDD and FDD in various application scenarios?

  1. Advantages of TDD

  Be able to flexibly configure frequencies and use scattered frequency bands that are not easy to use with FDD;

  Flexible support for asymmetric services can be achieved by adjusting the transition points between uplink and downlink time slots;

  Having uplink and downlink channel consistency, the receiving and transmitting of base stations can share some RF units, reducing equipment costs;

  When receiving uplink and downlink data, there is no need for a transceiver isolator, only a switch is needed, reducing the complexity of the equipment.

  2. Disadvantages of TDD

  The coverage area of TDD base stations is significantly smaller than that of FDD base stations

  TDD systems have the same frequency for transmitting and receiving channels, and there is interference within and between systems;

  In order to avoid interference with other wireless systems, TDD needs to reserve a large guard band, which affects the overall spectrum utilization efficiency;

  Due to the fast channel changes during high-speed motion, TDD time-sharing systems cause delays in channel messages reported by mobile phones, making TDD systems less effective than FDD in high-speed scenarios.

  In summary, TDD and FDD each have significant advantages in various application scenarios, and TDD and FDD networking may be good choices. The gap between TDD LTE and FDD LTE is much smaller compared to the gap between TD-SCDMA and WCDMA in the 3G era.
