Spectrum sharing allocation method of CBRS
Compared with the frequency bands of public network operators, CBRS differs in the way spectrum is allocated to each user. CBRS does not sell spectrum to operators with wide coverage on a large scale, nor does it fully disclose free trial frequency bands like WiFi. On the contrary, the usage within each building is individually requested and allocated based on specific circumstances. If no longer needed, return to others for use.
The process of spectrum allocation is automated, with several Spectrum Allocation Servers (SAS) coordinating the scheme nationwide. As part of the registration request, each small unit reports a horizontal position within 50 meters and a vertical position within 3 meters. SAS uses terrain data and radio propagation models to calculate the impact on nearby small units. Additional outdoor radio measurement receivers (environmental sensors) are also used to evaluate background levels. If the RF power density is less than -80dBm (1 × 10-11 watts), SAS authorizes spectrum use.
This allocation method is based on the concept that spectrum is a valuable national asset that should be utilized instead of dormant.
