Characteristics and Applications of Q-band and EHF Ultra High Frequency

The Q-band is a frequency range included in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The common usage places this range between 33 and 50 GHz. The Q-band is located within the EHF range of the radio spectrum.

The Q-band is mainly used for satellite communication, ground microwave communication, and radio astronomy research, such as the QUIET telescope. It is also used in automotive radar and radar for studying the characteristics of the Earth's surface.

Ultra high frequency (EHF) is the term used by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the radio frequency band of 30 to 300 gigahertz (GHz) in the electromagnetic spectrum. It is located between the ultra-high frequency band and the far-infrared band, with the lower part being the terahertz band. The wavelength of radio waves in this frequency band is 10-1mm, so it is also known as millimeter frequency band or millimeter wave, sometimes abbreviated as MMW or mmWave.

Millimeter waves are commonly used in military fire control radar, airport security scanners, short-range wireless networks, and scientific research.

With the rapid development of network communication, the bottom frequency band of EHF is being used for mobile communication networks, 5G networks, and so on.
